About us

Dark Horse Building is owned and operated by husband and wife team Matt and Prue McCaughan. Based in Kirwee, they live locally with their two children, Marlie and Darcy, and bring a mix of hands-on expertise and lived experience to every home they build.

A Builder Who Knows the Craft and the Process

Matt’s the Director and on-site builder, with more than 20 years of residential construction under his belt. He first trained in high-spec architectural homes and has since built everything from rural lifestyle builds to light commercial work. Known for his sharp eye and well-thought-out approach, Matt specialises in delivering solid, good-looking homes with no corners cut, across a wide range of budgets.

Keeping the Wheels Turning (and the Builder in Line)

Prue runs the day-to-day operations behind the scenes. With a background in personal training and nutrition, she’s no stranger to hard work or clear communication, and she keeps things running smoothly from the office to the site. She’s also unofficially in charge of keeping the builder fit, fed and on task.
